Critic wonders when Adam Sandler will stop making awful movies

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

On Friday's edition of Reel Reviews, FOX 2 and Metro Times film critic Corey Hall held back no punches on Adam Sandler's 'Grown Ups 2.' In summary, Hall called the sequel a bad, bad movie that's just an excuse for bad gags and typical cameos.

LT: Talk about 'Grown Ups 2,' which I did not see.

CH: Aren't you the lucky one. Adam Sandler apparently has to keep all of these people in show business who would otherwise not have jobs.

LT: The first one made $162 million, Corey.

CH: Yeah, it really did and apparently people don't have a lot of discerning ability. Everybody's back except Rob Schneider because apparently he got lucky. You got Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Taylor Lautner. He's the bad the guy.. This thing is lazy. It's repetitive. It's lame. They put no effort into it. The first one made a lot of money. This is actually the first sequel Adam Sandler's ever done, which is kind of interesting, but he makes basically the same movie every time over and over again so why bother with sequels?

LT: Will this one make money?

CH: Oh, it'll make money. But it doesn't deserve to. It's really terrible. It's lame, unfunny.. what else can I say? It's a bad, bad movie. It's not good at all. It's not a credit sheet, it's a rap sheet if you're in the credits for this thing. Every cameo in the world.. pretty much everyone who was on SNL in the 90s shows up. Ellen Cleghorne shows up. Ellen Cleghorne?!? Where'd they dig her up from? Cheri Oteri, they all show up for cameos... It looks like they had a lot of fun making the movie. I didn't have any fun watching the movie. None of the jokes work. It's just tired.

LT: So, did you like 'Grown Ups'?

CH: No. But, Adam Sandler doesn't make movies for critics. He makes movies for the public. Some people enjoy them. We don't. Critics don't..ya know, people who like scripts. This movie has almost no plot. At least the first one had a plot. This one is just an excuse for bad gags. At one point, David Spade is rolling down a hill in a tire and says, "When will it stop?" And I asked the same question: When will it stop, Sandler? You gotta try. Put an effort in. Care about your movies. But he doesn't because he makes mountains of money.

LT: And he'll probably make mountains on this one too.

CH: Yeah.

LT: So, I'm guessing it's a 'no-go' on 'Grown Ups 2'?

CH: Definite no on 'Grown Ups 2.'

Later in the show, Sandler appeared via satellite and joked: "Whoever wrote those bad reviews in your town, shame on you, I'm gonna get you!"
