15 people arrested after Uptown drug investigation

An investigation by Chicago police resulted in more than a dozen people arrested and charged with various drug-related offenses, authorities said.

The police department's Narcotics Division targeted drug activity near the intersection of West Lawrence Avenue and North Sheridan Road in the Uptown neighborhood, and on July 11, police arrested 15 people, authorities said.

Their charges included delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of a controlled substance and delivery of cannabis within 1,000 feet of a school, police said.

Throughout the course of the investigation, police recovered about $4,200 worth of illegal drugs, most crack cocaine and small amounts of cannabis. They also seized one vehicle, police said.

The majority of those arrested have documented gang affiliations.

Police identified four others with connections to the drug activity in the area and "efforts to apprehend [them] are ongoing."

In the last month, eight people have been wounded in two separate shootings at the intersection of Lawrence and Sheridan.
