Freeman out, McCann in at the All-Star game

Posted: Updated:

Freddie Freeman will be going to the All-Star Game, but not to play. He jammed his left thumb during Saturday's game against the Reds.

FOX 5 Sports has learned that fellow Braves catcher Brian McCann will be heading to Citi Field in New York City to play with fellow National League All Stars against the American Leaguers.

A record-setting 19.7 million voters were cast for the hug-loving Freeman. General manager Frank Wren said that he is a "no-go" for the All-Star game after that injury.

Freeman jammed his left thumb at the start of Saturday's game against the Cinicinnati Reds. He played the rest of the game and helped the Braves earn a 5-2 win.

Despite that, Freeman was placed in a soft slint and sat out the final game of the series against the Reds on Sunday.

Freeman beat out Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig to get his slot on the All-Star roster in a final battle for the fan vote.

The 2013 MLB All-Star Game is Tuesday. Coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. with the first pitch being thrown out at 8:30 p.m. And that will all air on FOX 5 Atlanta.
