Local Attorney Gives Analysis On Zimmerman Trial

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

George Zimmerman may have left the courtroom a free man but his troubles are likely far from over.

He faces civil suits which could cause possible financial ruin and he could also be brought up on federal charges.

Joining FOX 29 to talk about the case and where this goes next is local attorney Ken Rothweiler.

Ken will answer questions that a lot of people around the country have raised. For example, what happened to the prosecution's case? Many legal analysts say it was bad from the start. The state was weak on evidence, not to mention overshooting by going for a second degree murder charge.

Would the outcome have been different if the state went for manslaughter right off the bat, instead of waiting until mid-trial?

In civil court, the standard of proof is lower - and it's been reported that Trayvon's family is considering pursuing a wrongful death civil suit. What would that mean for George Zimmerman, and would lawyers for Martin's family have a better case?

The other thing on the table is federal prosecution. The NAACP is now calling on the Justice Department and Attorney General Eric Holder to open a civil rights case against Zimmerman saying quote "the most fundamental of civil rights - the right to life - was violated the night Zimmerman pursued and killed Trayvon Martin." From the evidence given in this trial, is the case strong enough for hate crime charges?

Watch the video above to hear Attorney Rothweiler's analysis.
