"The future is bright." Those words from entrepreneur Kamran Pourzanjani on the state of L.A.'s economy. Pourzanjani is a long-time businessman in the City of Angels. Speaking of angels, Wikipedia lists him as Co-Founder and former CEO of Pricegrabber, "a comparison shopping site started with angel funding of less than $1.5 million." Pourzanjani is currently the Founder and CEO of Bestcovery.com
Pourzanjani knows the ups and downs of being in business and is a long-time judge of the LA Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. In fact, it takes one to know one. Pourzanjani received the honor himself in 2005. At this year's event in June I asked him to sum up So-Cal in financial terms.
He acknowledges we are still in challenging financial times and hesitantly labeled this year better than last. The Entrepreneur of the Year Awards he says, "shows that there are companies that are thriving and things are getting better." Pourzanjani calls the diversity in L.A.'s economy unparalleled with everything from technology to pharmaceuticals to manufacturing to financial.
Among the EOY-LA award recipients this year: Janice Bryant Howroyd-The Act 1 Group, Moctesuma Esparza-Maya Cinemas North America, Inc., Clarence Daniels Jr.-Concession Management. Over seven hundred people attended the June event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Together, the finalists have increased their workforce by twenty-percent since 2010. They are considered the job creators.
