"Sharknado," the ratings flop but social media hit, is getting a sequel set in New York, the network SyFy announced.

The campy made-for-cable movie about a tornado of sharks (no, that's not a mistake) slamming into the L.A. area first aired July 11 and the Twittersphere blew up with snarky comments, many from celebrities.

"Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm -- on television," Syfy Executive Vice President Thomas Vitale said in a statement. "The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that 'Sharknado 2' will be lots of fun. We'll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn't want our fans to worry they wouldn't get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year."

The film stars Ian Ziering (of Las Vegas' Chippendales fame) and Tara Reid (of unfortunate post-surgery wardrobe malfunction fame).

The network is using Facebook and Twitter to take suggestions for the sequel's subtitle: "Tweet us your best, funniest subtitles to @SyfyMovies with the hashtag ?#?Sharknado for a chance to name our next movie!"

Some suggestions so far:

  • Sharknado 2: Because we are NOT drug testing at SyFy Channel
  • Sharknado 2: Electric Boogaloo
  • Sharknado 2: Biting the Big Apple
  • Sharknado 2: The Quest for Lost Dignity
  • Sharknado 2: Fin City
  • Sharknado 2: Still Better than Jersey Shore
