Gunman Opens Fire On Group Of Kids In Delco

Posted: Updated:

Police in Delaware County are searching for the gunman who opened fire on a group of children injuring at least two people, including an 11-year-old girl.

It happened just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday on Beverly Avenue in East Lansdowne.

Police said they responded to a report of numerous shots fired on the first block of Beverly, and they first noticed a man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his leg. They were then informed that inside a nearby residence was a girl who had been shot in multiple places on her body.

"We did receive a description from several people about what appeared to be an adult black male hiding in the bushes over here, and he's fired off between eight and nine rounds from a semiautomatic handgun," East Lansdowne police Sgt. James Kaden said. "He actually fired on a group of children that were crossing the street."

Both victims are expected to be OK.

There's a newspaper report indicating that a 10-year-old boy may also have been wounded in the shooting.

There's no word on a suspect or a motive at this time.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley was live at the scene in East Lansdowne with more details Friday morning.
