Celebrities On 'The Homeless List'

It hasn't always been private jets and multi-million dollar homes and multiple homes at that, for some of our biggest movie and TV stars.

In fact some of them were at one time or another homeless, and that's the focus of "The List" today.

In a new article appearing in "W" magazine, Jennifer Lopez says she was once without a home of her own. J-Lo says after she and her mom butted heads about her decision to pursue her Hollywood dreams, she started couch surfing, sleeping on the couch at the dance studio.

Other celebs on 'the homeless list':

  1. Kelly Clarkson: Before becoming an the original "American Idol," Clarkson not only lived out of her car, but showered at a health club after her Los Angeles apartment burned down.
  2. Halle Berry: The Oscar winning actress was 21 and living in homeless shelters while pursing her Hollywood dream, like j-lo she didn't have her mom's approval.
  3. Hilary Swank: Another Oscar winner, Swank grew up in a trailer park in Washington before she and her mom moved to Los Angeles, living out of their car, booking auditions over payphones before finally landing some small gigs.
  4. Jim Carrey: As a child the actor lived in a van with his family when his dad lost his job, he quit school at the age of 15 and started working as a janitor to help support his family.
  5. William Shatner: Hard to believe but after "Star Trek" ended in the early 70's he was recently divorced and broke.  He found work back east for summer stock but couldn't afford hotels, so he lived out of the back of his truck.
  6. David Letterman, Sylvester Stallone, Carmen Electra and Drew Carey just some of the other names on the list one one time homeless celebs.
