Hot Diggity Dog!

Posted: Updated:

It's Friday! So I thought I would take a break from the dire, dour, depressing doom and gloom destruction that often pervades the day's news and blog about something infinitely more pleasant. And delicious! If you're not a fan of hot dogs, this is not going to be of any interest to you whatsoever. But if you are, you're going to love this. It has been said there is nothing more American than the hot dog and I'll add to that, there's nothing more American than a great deal. And do I have a deal for you. Actually, Wiernerschnitzel has the deal.

This Sunday, July, 21, Wienerschnitzel is offering 15-cent hot dogs. You read right, 15 cents! It's kind of a throwback to its 1960s price in honor of National Hot Dog Month. The restaurant chain is offering you a choice of its original Chili Dog, Mustard Dog or Kraut Dog for the 15 cent price. The only restriction is you are limited to one dog per person at that unbelievable price.

The Irvine-based chain has over 300 locations, predominantly in California and Texas, although a few are located in other parts of the country as well. By the way, in addition to National Hot Dog Month, the 15-cent promotion is being done to honor the restaurant's founder John Galardi who passed away recently. With a deal like that, how can it not be a great weekend?

Officials say a 16-year-old boy is "lucky to be alive" and unharmed after flying from California to Hawaii stowed away in a plane's wheel well, surviving cold temperatures at 38,000 feet and a lack of oxygen. "Doesn't even remember the flight," FBI spokesman Tom Simon in Honolulu told The Associated Press on Sunday night. "It's amazing he survived that."
