We all remember the direction and advice our parents gave us.  Most of us remember the top things they'd repeat over and over again, like ‘Look both ways before crossing the street.' They repeated them because they were the most important, either to protect us, or to move us forward in life.]

The theme of Be A Money Smarty Night @ The Phoenix is advice, direction and protection for Michigan consumers covering four important financial parts of our lives.   Four recognized money ‘smarties'  were asked this:  If you could tell Michigan consumers only 10 things, what would they be?

  1. What would the MI Dept. of Attorney General tell you about identity theft?  What they say may be surprising – and unsettling.
  2. What would Michigan State University Extension say about credit and debt?  Get clear, easy-to-follow action items and on-line resources.
  3. From a consumer protection standpoint, what do we need to know before purchasing annuity or long-term care insurance products?
  4. What do we need to know about financial services providers? and,
  5. If we had a checklist to help us gain and keep control over our financial-related matters, what would be on that list?

The Opportunity
