Police investigate deadly shooting; 1 arrested

Posted: Updated:

Phoenix police say a man standing on a sidewalk was fatally shot by another man who allegedly yelled at the victim before shooting him.

This happened late Monday night in central Phoenix near 18th Street and Adams.

Officers on a traffic stop were in the area Monday evening and immediately found the victim lying on the ground as numerous people in the area ran away from the scene.

A large perimeter was set up and officers asked some people in the area to evacuate their homes.  Sgt. Trent Crump says officers then conducted a search and arrested a man known to the victim.

It's not known what led up to the shooting.

The victim was Larry Williams, 42. The suspect has been identified as Garrick Solomon, 35.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
