BARROW COUNTY, Ga. -

A north Georgia school is mourning the loss of a student athlete. Jordan Bracken-Howley, 17, died Monday morning after complaining of a headache the day before.

Jordan was an upcoming senior football player at Apalachee High School.

The district and his coach are left to console his team and classmates.

"He never missed a workout," says Apalachee High football coach Sane Davis. "He never missed practice. He's always there."

Davis says Jordan wasn't one of his starting players, but he took his role as both an offensive and defensive lineman seriously.

"Jordan pretty much summed up what we want our players to be like," says Davis. "The type of character, the type of work ethic and the type of discipline that we pride ourselves in."

Jordan was much more than a football player. Barrow County Schools Superintendent Dr. Wanda Creel says he was an advanced placement student who was loved and admired by both the students and staff.

"Jordan had a tremendous personality," says Creel. "He was so well thought of by his peers as well as the  adults in the building."

Dr. Creel expects Jordan's death to have quite an impact on students at Apalachee High School.

Dr. Creel is making grief counselors available for them even before classes start.

"In this particular case, the very next time that our players come together for practice, we will have counselors and social workers there," says Creel. "They will be present to work with the players, answer any questions and help support them in any way."

Medical examiners found a pituitary tumor on the base of Jordan's brain on Tuesday.
