Two beloved figures at Tigers games killed in hit-and-run

Police are still searching for the driver who killed two men well-known by Tigers fans as the 'Eat 'em Up Tigers guy' and 'Dreadlock Mike.'

Police say James Van Horn and Michael Alston were struck by a hit-and-run driver over the weekend.

The two men were colorful figures outside Comerica Park during Tigers game. Many fans stop to talk or pose for pictures with them.

Right now, a memorial is growing at the corner of Gratiot and Russell where the two men were found in the street around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

A Facebook page has been created to help bring attention to the incident. As of Monday morning, the page had nearly 16,000 fans.

So far, there have been no arrests in the case. Police tell FOX 2 they're looking for black Dodge Avenger with a New Jersey license plate. Tips also indicate a second car, a white full-size Cadillac sedan, was involved. "We're definitely getting a lot of help from the community right now," said Detroit Police officer Scott Sheets.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

Update 7/30/2013: James Van Horn's funeral will be at 11 a.m. on August 2 at the New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, located at 6330 Pembroke in Detroit. Donations can be made at the C. W. Morris - J.W. Henry Funeral Home, located at 12700 Hamilton Avenue in Highland Park.

    48-year-old Keith Andersen retired in February from the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department. On June 21, he was involved in a roll over accident where he suffered a broken neck. As of now Keith has no movement in his the lower half of his body. The Fraternal Order of Police, Grosse Pointe Lodge 102 is holding a fundraiser for Keith on Aug 5th.
