NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A boy from Brooklyn with Down syndrome who disappeared Sunday in Orange County was found safe in the woods on Monday morning, said New York State Police.

Shimon Zorger, who has a tendency to hide, according to police, was found in a wooded area just outside Kiryas Joel.

The 10-year-old boy had been visiting his grandparents in the Hasidic Jewish community about 50 miles north of New York City when he disappeared at about 6 p.m.

New York State police and Kiryas Joel emergency officers searched for the boy for approximately 15 hours.

A Kiryas Joel public safety officer said the boy went missing near Lizensk Boulevard, which is a densely populated Cul-de-sac off Schunnemunk Road.

Kiryas Joel residents helped in the search.

Responders believed from the start that the boy was not hurt, according to the Kiryas Joel police.

State police used search dogs and rescue boats to find Zorger.

He was in good health when found but was checked out at Westchester Medical Center as a precaution.
