Eagles WR Cooper Apologizes For Racist Slurs At Concert

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper is apologizing for a racist rant caught on camera at a recent concert.

The footage, posted to YouTube by the blog site CrossingBroad.com, has Cooper with beer in hand saying, "I'm going to jump that fence and fight every one of n----- here, bro."

The clip apparently came from a Kenny Chesney concert.

In three successive messages on Cooper's Twitter account Wednesday afternoon, the wide receiver said, "I am so ashamed and disgusted with myself. I want to apologize. I have been offensive. I have apologized to my coach, Jeffrey Lurie, and … Howie Roseman and to my teammates. I owe an apology to the fans and to this community. I am so ashamed, but there are no excuses. What I did … was wrong and I will accept the consequences."

Riley later gave a statement to the press. He said, "I'm extremely sorry for my actions. I wanted to come up and tell you guys that."

"I talked to Mr. Lurie, I talked to Howie Roseman and I talked to coach Kelly and explained to them about the whole situation. I'm willing to accept any consequences," he said. "There was a confrontation, and I handled it very poorly."

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie responded with a statement afterwards, saying, "We are shocked and appalled by Riley Cooper's words. This sort of behavior or attitude from anyone has no role in a civil society. He has accepted responsibility for his words and his actions. He has been fined for this incident."
