Apache County supervisors pick replacement senator

Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - The Apache County Board of Supervisors has chosen a replacement for a state senator who resigned his seat representing a legislative district in northeastern Arizona.

The Apache County board's pick to replace Window Rock Democrat Jack Jackson Jr. as the senator from Legislative District 7 is Carlyle Begay, an executive forPhoenix-based American Indian Health Management and Policy.

Begay's eligibility for the appointment made Wednesday is being questioned by Rep. Albert Hale, a St. Michaels Democrat who wanted the appointment.

Begay has lived in a Phoenix-area suburb for the past seven years, but he registered to vote in Apache County on July 22.
