Two Men Arrested For Human Trafficking Of Minors

Santa Ana, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) Two Sacramento men were behind bars today on suspicion of pimping two girls in Santa Ana, police said.

Michael Wayne Greer, 24, and Jaylin Jaywan Marshall, 20, were booked on suspicion of human trafficking of a minor, pandering of a minor and pimping for prostitution of a minor, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. They were being held in the Santa Ana city jail in lieu of $500,000 bail, Bertagna added.

Santa Ana police responded to an advertisement from an escort service website and set up a "date'' over the phone for 8 a.m. Wednesday with a 24-year-old Latina at a Red Roof Inn, 2600 N. Main St., Bertagna said.

When the undercover officer arrived a 17-year-old girl greeted him, Bertagna said. "Then he noticed someone hiding in the bathroom, who turned out to be a 16-year-old girl,'' Bertagna said. "The girls were excited and said, `Thank you, thank you,' and told (officers) their story.''

The two girls met Greer and Marshall at parties through their friends, Bertagna said.

"They convinced the girls to go on vacation to Hollywood and L.A.,'' Bertagna said. "The girls thought that was cool, so they went on a vacation and told their parents they were staying at each other's houses for a couple of days.''

The girls went with the men to San Jose without any identification, a phone or money, Bertagna said. When they arrived in San Jose, the girls were told they would have to work off their share of the trip through prostitution, Bertagna said. After that, they drove to Santa Ana.

The girls told the men they wanted to go home, he said. Santa Ana police, working with FBI agents, arrested Marshall Wednesday at an undisclosed motel in Anaheim, Bertagna said. Greer was in a car, acting as a lookout, he said.

The girls were turned over to social workers to be returned to their families, he said.

It was unclear if the case would be prosecuted by state or federal prosecutors, Bertagna said.

An NYPD plan intended to better connect with the community seems to have backfired. The police department asked its Twitter followers to share pictures of themselves with New York City police officers using the hashtag "myNYPD." Some did share nice pictures, but others decided to not "play nice, " sharing beating photos and more.
