Suspects sought in Cherokee County auto thefts

Posted: Updated:
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -

Cherokee County authorities are searching for suspects in a series of car break-ins.

Surveillance footage captured two suspects in the act of a break-in at the Towne Lake Hills West subdivision on July 28. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office says seven vehicle thefts occurred that morning.

"It makes me mad. Everybody I tell my story to, it makes them mad," said Chris Burns, one of the victims.

Burns said that he heard his car alarm go off around 4:30 a.m. He went outside and confront a person he believes to be a suspect.

"He said his name was Chris, as if I'm supposed to know him, Burns said. "I don't know him. I saw that my flap was undone on my Jeep, so I knew that somebody had just broken in. As he was walking away, I told him, ‘I know that you just broke into my Jeep.'  He just kept on walking."

Authorities say they located a series of footprints leading from one car to another in the neighborhood. They said there appeared to be two sets of tracks.

Investigators believe that the suspects live in or near the community.

Authorities are reminding people not to leave valuables in their car, and make sure the vehicles are locked.

Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call investigators at 770-928-0239.
