Teachers and students are heading back to class across the valley this week -- time to brush up on math, English, history and biology!
Safety is the main concern as everyone gets back into the swing of things.
The start of the school year means a lot of children are out walking and in Tempe, drivers need to know that police officers are out in force to make sure drivers are following the rules in school zones.
"The thing with some of these kids sometimes is you never know how they're going to react. There may be one group of friends on one side of the road, a friend darts across the street -- so expect the unexpected is what we tell people and understand there's going to be a lot of kids, a lot parents, a lot of confusion sometimes," said Sgt. Steve Carbajal.
Schools and parents are reminding students to be safe and to cross only in crosswalks and with the supervision of adults. Police are also warning kids to avoid alleyways and to walk in well-populated areas.
