Diner Reopens And Reinvents After Bulldozer Damage

Posted: Updated:

A square window used to be a wall before a rouge bulldozer plowed through and ended up in the middle of the dining room. Today, the Piston Diner has new owners, a new window, and the dining room is filled with kisses and coffee.

"We'll be a family over here," says Danny Miliaresis, the owner of Piston Diner. Miliaresis describes a diner filled with regulars, where servers know what you want before you sit down. It's a far cry from what The Piston Diner looked like a few months ago.

"I came into it with the mess, so I came in, repaired it, renovated it and that's how you see it now," says Miliaresis.

The name and décor remained the same, but there are a few additions, thanks to the incident that brought the new owners and their diner together.

"We have a bull dozer breakfast sandwich, which is scrambled egg on a torpedo roll with your choice of cheese," says Miliaresis.

That new sandwich is more than just a sandwich. It was a turning point in the history of the diner

"A front loader bull dozer blew through the diner," says Miliaresis.

The Miliaresis family had once owned the Woodlawn Diner, so their customers were thrilled to learn a second generation would operate the Piston Diner and bring back all their favorites.

"We had our cream chipped beef, and it was absolutely delicious," says Kathy Seufert.

"We've made a lot of friends from the other place and here you end up seeing them out and it's like a big class reunion," says Bob Seufert. "Gus and his family, they're great people. They care of you."
