Best Beach Scenes From The Movies

Posted: Updated:

Sixty years ago this week "From Here to Eternity" debuted in theaters. Who can forget the famous beach scene...so in honor of that....Time magazine came up with some of the most memorable beach scenes...and that's "The List" today.

  1. The iconic scene with Deborah Kerr and Burt Lancaster shot on location on Oahu. Did you know the kissing scene was originally shot standing up, but it was Lancaster's idea to get horizontal. It was considered so steamy that still photos were banned in the ads.
  2. Dr. No:  The first James Bond movie, Sean Connery was the star but who can forget Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder emerging from the waters off Jamaica in a now-legendary belted white bikini...it made her internationally famous.
  3. Beach Blanket Bingo: This is the fifth of the Beach Party films with Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello, but it's probably the best-remembered, because of that title.
  4. Planet of the Apes:  This comes at the ending of the movie, the Statue of Liberty trashed on the beach for time-traveling astronaut Charlton Heston
  5. Jaws:  The first of two Steven Spielberg movies to make the list.  The beach was never ever the same after seeing this one.
  6. Chariots of Fire:  Admit, at least once in your life you've run on the beach and done the soundtrack to this one.
  7. Saving Private Ryan: Steven Speilberg begins the movie with and old World War II veteran visiting Omaha Beach weeping thinking about those who sacrificed their lives for him, and then it flashes back to the D-Day invasion.
  8. In all Time had 10 movies...but the one that the guys in the newsroom pointed out that wasn't on the list...Bo Derek in "10" right? who had forget that slo-mo run on the beach!
