To honor and remembered the lives of two Fox 2 photographers, who left us way too early, a benefit event is happening on Saturday night.
Club Waterfalls in Detroit is the place to be to help raise a glass and some money for a scholarship to benefit students of Journalism at Eastern Michigan University.
The Burke-Ferguson Memorial Scholarship Fund was started to remember two great men who lived to give back to the community.
Wendell 'Wink' Burke and Rodney 'Hot" Rod Ferguson worked at Fox 2 as photographers for years. Burke passed away in 2011, Ferguson in 2012.
The dynamic duo were students and best friends at Eastern Michigan University. Their friendship grew as staffers in the Fox 2 News department.
Their collective knowledge of Detroit, combined with a grace to draw out real stories from real people, made them incredible story tellers. Their legacy goes beyond great camera work and editing, it was about connecting with people.
Ask any Fox 2 staffer, reporter, producer or manager about them and they'll be sure to have a story to tell about how one or the other saved the day. Moreover, Wendell and Rodney were just good people.
The two often helped students or new hire learn the ropes of the news business, so it is very fitting to continue the scholarship fund in journalism under their names.
JOIN THE FUN, JOIN THE CAUSE -- ALL ARE WELCOME.
This is a chance for friends, family, colleagues and Fox 2 viewers to come together to honor two men who gave their all by giving back to a place that helped give them their start.
