Glow app helps women pinpoint fertility window

Posted: Updated:

Having trouble getting pregnant? Now there's an app for that.

It's called Glow. Based on data you enter--like your temperature and the number of times you have sex--it helps women determine a fertility window.

Almost 7 million women in the United States have trouble getting pregnant, or carrying a baby to term, according to the centers for disease control and prevention.

Some doctors say while the app may be helpful, more scientific ways of knowing when you're most likely to conceive do exist.

"When a woman is fertile she'll notice when she passes urine and she wipes herself after urinating, that she has clear, thin mucous," Dr. Sami David said. "When you see that clear thin mucous, you know you're within your window of opportunity to become pregnant."

The app helps you keep track of your menstrual cycle, provides helpful reminders (like taking your prenatal vitamins), and helps you stay mindful of your moods.

Women we spoke to say they'd be more than willing to try it.

The app is free, but you can also opt into Glow First, a not-for-profit program where you donate $50 per month for 10 months.

If 10 couples are in the fund, for example, and eight get pregnant, the two couples who didn't conceive will get back their money.

The app launched this week, so the success rate is still unknown, but developers say they hope for a baby bonanza.
