A  cold hearted crime near Rittenhouse Square has residents' jaws dropping

"Ohhhh my gosh!"  Debbie Kostianovsky exclaimed as we showed her video of the April 7th incident.

Police say a man about  6-feet tall--around 20-years old--- robbed  a 71-year-old woman.

"That's  really bad. Really bad," Adam Schneider said shaking his head. "I guess they're an easier target which shows you how cowardly people who attack them are."

The incident happened around six  Wednesday night  in the 2300 block of Manning.

Police say the woman was walking home from the Farmers' Market when the man in a green T-shirt crept up behind her on his bike.

They say he grabbed her by the back of the neck, spun her around then snatched her  purse.

"It's  just really close to home."

The callous crime happened on Gurpreet Gills street--shattering her sense of safety.

"I'll probably stop carrying a purse on my shoulder maybe be more careful
with my belongings."

The suspect took off West on Manning leaving the 71-year-old woman to nurse an injured knee. It's a crime that has neighbors thinking twice about their daily routines.

"I take the alleys and don't think twice about. It's pretty scary," said
it especially 5 in afternoon. But now? pretty scary." said Debbie Kostianovsky.

Police say the suspect made off with about $65, some credit cards and the woman's cell phone.
