ATLANTA -

Friends and family held a candlelight vigil on Friday for a college student seriously injured in a car crash in Atlanta.

Kurt Tarter says his 20-year-old daughter, Julia, was about to return to Georgia College in Milledgeville last Sunday when she realized that she had forgotten a bag inside her Atlanta home. She got out without putting the car in park.

"Car starts to take off. Julia says, 'Oh no! I'm going to jump in and stop it,'" said Kurt Tarter.

Police believe she hit the accelerator and ended up pinned between the vehicle and a fire hydrant.

She was transported to the hospital, where she remains in a coma.

"The signs are just not in her favor. She's just non-responsive," said Kurt Tarter.

Friends and church members gathered together in Peachtree City where her mother works in hopes of bring comfort to her family.

Julia's father says in just two decades, Julia has already been an inspiration in faith, but has so much more to give.

"We need a miracle," Kurt Tarter said.
