Woman wonders what's on film found in 1903 camera

Posted: Updated:
TEMPLE, Ga. -

A west Georgia woman with a 110-year-old camera is anxious to see what is on film found inside.

Karen Powell bought the camera for a few dollars at a yard sale. She's been told it's a 1903 Kodak field camera.

Inside the camera, Powell found a roll of exposed film, but she hasn't been able to find anyone with the equipment to develop it.

"It could have some major some historical value, or it could be blank," Powell said. "But the challenge is to find a lab to develop the film so that we can see what's finally on it."

This third-generation Temple resident is a self-described "yard sale junkie" who collects everything from dishes to bottles to baseball cards. She conducts private showings of her findings.

The camera has held a special fascination: What did it photograph and when?

"Just the curiosity in me to know that this camera is that old. It has film in it that is old and just my curiosity about the history or the past, or whatever – just to see what's on there," Powell said.

For her, the potential to view a sliver of history -- or even something much less significant -- is part of the passion of collecting.

"I love it. You know, just to have it, to look at it, to touch history, a little bit of history. It is exciting to me," said Powell said.

A film processor in Atlanta contacted by FOX 5 said he would try to develop the film. Check back for updates.
