Michelle Obama to release 'healthy' music album

Updated:

The battle against childhood obesity is ongoing and one of the most outspoken people trying fighting for healthier kids is Michelle Obama.

The First Lady launched the "Let's Move" initiative about a year ago and now she's trying something else to get kids healthy.

When you think of music videos, Michelle Obama usually doesn't come to mind, but as part of her initiative, she's releasing an album: "Songs for a Healthier America."

"It's hard to believe that one year ago we launched 'Let's Move' to help solve childhood obesity in this country," said Obama.

While she doesn't actually sing any of the songs, she does make a cameo in the music video for "Everybody."

The song is sung by rapper Doug E. Fresh and our own hometown girl, Jordin Sparks.

"From friends to fam, just love life. There's no pressure, things will be better if you try, work hard, eat right...feeling good starts on the inside" are a snippet of the lyrics.

The songs on the album focus on healthy eating and exercise.

The hope is that the music will get kids up and moving.

For the first time in several years, childhood obesity rates appear to be declining.

18 states saw slight drops in obesity for low income preschoolers, but it's still not enough.

One in eight preschoolers are obese in the US, along with one third of kids and teens.

Schools and government are getting involved in the fight against childhood obesity by getting rid of soda and junk food in vending machines and adding more fruit and veggies to the lunch menu.

But with options like pizza and french fries, it's hard for kids to make healthier choices.

Obama is hoping that the new music can make those choices a little easier.

The full album can be downloaded for free on Sept. 30.
