DETROIT (WJBK) -

Neighbors band together to help solve the murder of a local pastor.

A vigil was held Friday to honor Tim Kirby. The Detroit pastor and father of seven children was shot and killed after asking someone at a neighbor's house to turn down their party music.

Concerned residents canvassed the streets looking for clues.

"God said thou shall not kill. We shouldn't take anything that we can't give," said relative Gerald Ruffin. "Let's try to give life and not take it."

"The cycle of violence has to stop. I also want to say that retaliation is not the answer, so even those who are hurting on the other side, we cannot continue to fight fire with fire," said David Bullock from the Change Agent Consortium.

If you know who killed Pastor Kirby, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. You don't have to give your name, and you could get a cash reward.

Meanwhile, a fund has been set up to raise money for Pastor Kirby's children so they can buy clothes and supplies for school. If you would like to make a donation, visit www.gofundme.com/3vzxrs.
