Phillies Host Baseball 101

PHILADELPHIA -

It's a behind-the-batting-cage look at the game of baseball and the organization, and it's just for women. Welcome to Baseball 101.

"I know a good amount. I go to a lot of games with family and friends," says Leanne McCarron.

"It's interesting to see where the team's going to go, what are the plans for the future…" says Arlene Louthert.

They call it Baseball 101, but don't be fooled. This crowd is not a bunch of rookies. These women are in a league of their own. They know the game, they love the game, and they are thrilled to have a back stage pass to the Phillies organization.

"Had to know it before; know even more now. Been on the field, job of a lifetime. It's really cool to experience this with my best friend," says Louthert, a former ball girl.

They lined up in the locker room to snap pictures of their favorite Phillies names. Some even got on the field with the coaches. They learned what umpires do to prep the balls for pitchers. They even got some time with Phillies manager Ruben Amaro. A few ladies had some words for him.

"Why Charlie???" asked one.

But perhaps the highlight of the day came when the ladies got to meet the surprise guests: Carlos Ruiz and Eric Kratz.

"Meeting the players and actually being on the field; I've never been on the Citizens Bank Field," says Leanne McCarron.

Tonight there's a huge pregame party. All of these women will be at the game tonight for the game against the Colorado Rockies. A few lucky ones will get to dance on the dug out with The Philly Phanatic. That's worth the whole day right there.

The Phillies host another Baseball 101 clinic on September 3rd. The tickets are 200 dollars.
