Senseless: Wrong Place, Wrong Time

Posted: Updated:

Senseless. That's the only way to describe the story I am about to share with you.

At 15, 16, 17 kids often do dumb things- make decisions without thinking it over, live in the moment, don't think about the consequences, or how their choices will affect others... but there is simple no excuse for this.

A promising handsome Australian student, who was on a baseball scholarship in the U.S. was allegedly gunned down by three teenage boys, because well... they were just bored!

One of the worst stories I have heard today... I can't seem to stop shaking my head over this one.

To kill someone... purely for amusement. Are you kidding me? This really happened? Yes, sadly it did... It happened in Duncan, Oklahoma.

Chris Lane was out jogging after visiting his girlfriend, who happens to live nearby. Police say he went by a home, where these three boys were hanging out. The three picked him as their target, they got in a car, followed him, came up from behind and basically shot him in the back and took off. Chris was left to die on the side of the road, in the gutter actually, like road kill.

At least, police caught these guys before they could further indulge themselves.

A shotgun was found in the car, the handgun is still missing, but the ammunition for the handgun was found under the hood and there is surveillance footage that shows the boys hiding a weapon in the car's engine.

During questioning, the boys told police they were bored and decided to shoot someone "for the fun of it." For their sick amusement, a young man lost his life.

There are no words except... senseless.

Clearly nothing will bring Chris back. Nothing will come out of this. Sure the three (who I refuse to name because they aren't worthy to have their names mentioned) will pay for the life lost, by spending part of their lives behind bars. As of right now two have been charged with first-degree murder. But so what? While this may be a one in a million case, it is still so disturbing.

What can we as a society learn from this? Anything?

What I want to know... is where are the parents???
