Cops: Man, 74, Punched Knife-Wielding Attacker At ATM

NEWARK, Del. -

Newark police have surveillance photos of a female suspect who they say tried to rob a 74-year-old man with a knife on Monday morning.

According to police, the senior was withdrawing cash from an exterior ATM on Glasgow Avenue when the female suspect approached him. She demanded cash while waving the knife in front of the man, officers say, but the man refused to comply.

He then roundhouse punched her in the face, authorities say.

The suspect ran away and punctured the victim's car tires. She then drove off in a vehicle that the victim wasn't able to identify.

The would-be robber was described by police as a 5-foot-4-inch white woman with blonde hair and a thin build.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Robbery Unit at 302-834-2630 Extension #6 or calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
