Police Investigate Brutal Home Invasion In North Philadelphia

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia Police are on the 400 block of Sedgely, investigating a home invasion that left a man and his girlfriend brutally beaten.

"They were terrorized. It was a traumatic scene," says Philadelphia Police Captain George Fuchs.

Police say four armed men, posing as utility workers, knocked on the door of the victim's gated house. They then forced their way in. Once inside, they tied up the 67-year-old home owner's feet and hands, pistol whipped him, and demanded cash.

Investigators say the violence didn't stop there. They say the crooks went upstairs and took aim at the man's 54-year-old girlfriend. Sources say her face was severely injured.

"They found her in the bedroom, tied her up same way, bound ankles and hands, started beating on her," describes Fuchs. "There was blood all over the sheets."

Detectives on the scene dusted for prints. They're also hoping surveillance cameras captured the crime.

"You're in North Philly. Don't people invade houses everywhere? Around here, people get killed, shot on street. Happens all time," says Jack Esham.

Jack Esham's jaded by crime in his North Philly neighborhood. He says the 67-year-old home invasion victim was a nice guy who sold cars out of this lot and in front of his home on West Sedgely.

Police haven't confirmed if this was a random or targeted attack.

"He had money and everyone knows that," says Esham.

We're told the woman was eventually able to escape her flex ties and free her boyfriend. He tried to chase after the thieves before calling the cops. Police say the crooks made off with 350 in cash, two cell phones and maybe even a computer.
