NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The NYPD is still searching for the suspect who stole a vehicle struck a police officer in Queens Thursday night.

Police say 61-year-old Gary Sarback of Lake Worth, Fla., was behind the wheel of a black Ford pickup when two officers attempted to pull the vehicle over when Sarback suddenly struck one officer at Broadway and Crescent Street in Astoria.

The officers fired at the truck and as he sped away. Dozens of officers responded to the scene of the collision. Several blocks along Broadway as well as Crescent were taped off and guarded by officers as detectives examined evidence at the intersection.

Police shut down the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge to prevent Sarback from leaving Queens.

Police say Sarback either ditched the truck or crashed it at 37th Street and 24th Avenue and then fled on foot. During a canvass of the area a cell phone was discovered and a suspect was identified. The truck was reported stolen Tuesday from West Palm Beach, Fla.

Both officers were taken to Cornell Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries and they were treated and released.

Authorities say Sarback is believed to be the same man who robbed a woman in the East Elmhurst section of the borough earlier in the day.

Anyone with information in regards to the whereabouts of Gary Sarback is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
