Alice Cooper, Led Zeppelin and The Doors are all famous rock stars that had to get their start somewhere, right?
The School of Rock is opening its second campus in Ahwatukee to help kids get their start early.
In true rock star fashion, the brand new school of rock in Ahwatukee was dedicated with the smashing of a guitar.
This is the second valley location for the music school that teaches kids 7 to 18 everything they need to know about how to rock.
"We take beginners to advanced, so any kid can come in, even if they've never touched a guitar, and we can help them grow and develop and we teach them the theory through the rock songs," said Megan Rousey.
"I want to start recording my own original music and possibly touring with a band," said Alex Heckendorf.
At the age of 14, Heckendorf has lofty goals.
But, she says after studying at School of Rock for a year at their Scottsdale location, she's ready.
"It's one big family. Everyone is pushing each other and challenging each other in the best way possible," said Heckendorf.
The students learn everything from how to actually play an instrument, but also stage presence and music theory--all set to the soundtrack of rock n' roll.
"Any of our teachers, no matter how cool and tough, the first show they see they cry because you see kids grow so fast and you see them become confident. They're making friends. It's a fulfilling job--it's not a job, it's the coolest thing," said Rousey.
There is a tuition at the school, but they work with families so that anyone can attend if they want to.
