Body found in canal on Long Island

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police have identified the body of a woman found in a canal on Long Island Tuesday morning.

A fisherman noticed the body in the water at about 8 a.m. and called cops, Suffolk County Police said. The canal is west of Beaver Street in Mastic Beach.

Cops identified the woman as Diane Ross, 63, of Mastic Beach.

The Suffolk County medical examiner was set to perform an autopsy.

Detectives from the Homicide Squad are investigating.
