Report: Majority of relationships not with their "true love"

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) -

To settle, or not to settle.

Growing up, many find themselves dreaming of that passionate relationship with constant fireworks. Turns out though, a high number of people these days may make their worst childhood fear come true - and settle.

Researchers polled nearly 2,000 adults during a 3-day opera festival in Europe.
 - 73% of people say they're making due with their relationship because their true love got away
 - 25% said they were in love with two people at the same time
 - 17% admitted meeting the love of their life after getting together with their current long-term partner

Settling may not be all that bad, though.

"I'd encourage people that might find themselves in that [category], to actually feel good about it. Because any relationship that lasts is going to go through difficult times, and you may be staying for better reasons than you think. You might actually consider the good reasons for staying, and not necessarily the fact that you're enduring, or the things you thought you were missing," says Dr. Scott Bea, a clinical psychologist at Cleveland Clinic.

Even though so many seem to be married to someone who isn't their "true love," they're pretty happy with their current partner.
