Suspect in silver thefts arrested in Florida

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A man suspected of being a master silver thief is in custody.  Authorities in Florida arrested Blane Nordahl on warrants from Atlanta.  He's accused of stealing rare silver pieces from homes in Buckhead and across six states.

According to investigators, Nordahl committed burglaries in other Georgia cities from Macon to Athens to Columbus.  In all, Atlanta police say families in Buckhead lost an estimated $1.5 million in thefts tied to Nordahl.

Some of the stolen silver dates back to pre-Civil War, and had been handed down from generation to generation.  Authorities say Nordahl targeted large homes in affluent areas, and he got inside by removing a door or window panel and then replaced them upon leaving.

Authorities say it's clear that prison is no deterrent for Nordahl.  He has served time for burglaries in New York, and was released in 2010.  Investigators say he committed his first burglary in Atlanta four months later in April 2011.

In all, Nordahl is believed to be responsible for more than 50 burglaries across six states, and an estimated total value of $6-7 million in stolen items.

Nordahl's girlfriend, Elizabeth Music, was also arrested.  Both are awaiting extradition back to Atlanta on two counts of burglary.  Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
