Brooklyn residents tire of TV, film productions

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A block in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, is blocked off for filming the show "Hostages." Signs say shooting starts at 8 p.m., but as we found out that often changes.

Some residents say things have really gotten busy the past few years. And now, it's affecting their lives.

Phyllis Wojno says the constant TV and film shoots along Monitor Street and other blocks in and around her neighborhood are becoming a huge nuisance. She says signs are always saying they can't park and more.

She says at least six shows are in production, including "Hostages" and "Boardwalk Empire."

Residents being impacted by the filming say that more often than not no parking signs are put up along entire blocks but then days go by without any filming.

The city's Office of Media and Entertainment said the productions employ over 130,000 New Yorkers, contribute about $7.1  billion to the local economy annually and help out local businesses.

Still, residents say the lights, camera and action remains a distraction.

In a statement, a city spokesperson wrote that "... any issues arising from filming on location can be resolved through the production manager on site, or by contacting the Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting by dialing 311."

An earlier version of this story and broadcast report incorrectly reported that the film industry contributed $1.7 billion to the local economy annually.
