Water Wars

Governor Brown is pushing hard for another massive public works project that could leave taxpayers on the hook for billions.

It's another legacy project that's supposed to stabilize water reserves in the Sacramento Delta, while protecting its ecosystem.

I'd like to hear your Point of View. Send me an email at POV@fox11.com

Restoring the Delta's ecosystem is supposed to be at the heart of the twin tunnels project, which is aimed at saving the controversial Delta smelt fish.

Saving the smelt fish has been at the center of a water war for years, because when reserves get low, the water supply for Southern California is dramatically reduced.

But some think the whole thing is fishy

A new legislative analyst report says the cost of the Delta project could outweigh the benefits.  It's another 25-billion dollars we don't have.  And included in that figure is a massive 17-billion dollar water bill increase that would be passed onto consumers.

The problem is, the project is so expensive and it's not clear that it's going to accomplish its objectives.

Members of Congress are now calling on Governor Brown to fire the head of the project, who admitted as much.

If they can't prove in advance the project will save the fish and create more water reserves, then is this huge project really worthwhile?

Governor Brown should consider scaling it back for the good of the taxpayers and the fiscal health of the state.

Thanks for listening.

Hell on earth, that's how some doctors describe Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa also known as E.B. It's a horrible genetic disease that Nicky Zahorcak was born with. A lot of his skin is raw, the slightest touch can cause blisters that quickly spread. He says, "Right now, all the bandages that you see everywhere even on my sides, they're all raw skin." His mother Silvia says very few people know about this rare condition and she wants to change that.
