Permit denied for hotel on Fulton Industrial Blvd.

Posted: Updated:

The Fulton County Commission has denied a permit to a woman who wants to open a hotel on Fulton Industrial Boulevard.

Helen Zaver has spent $1.5 million to renovate a property that she wants to open as a Red Roof Inn. She said the hotel would employ 15 to 20 employees, while a 6,000 square foot restaurant on the property could employ another 40 to 50 people.

However, the long negative history of Fulton Industrial Boulevard has worked against Zaver's dream. Her application for a permit has been repeatedly turned down.

In denying the application, commissioners cited a high number of criminal calls to the premises in the 12 months preceding Zaver's application.

Zaver counters that she didn't operate the old property. Her lawyer has filed a challenge in Fulton Superior Court in an attempt to get the hotel open.
