Man who shot boy, 7, 'execution-style' gets life-plus 80

A man accused of murdering a 7-year-old boy in DeKalb County years ago and admitting to have shot him "execution-style" learned his punishment Thursday.

Police say William Kelsey shot Timothy Johnson, Jr. and his then 15-year old sister, Alexus, while they were sleeping in their home in September 2007. Kelsey was arrested in December 2007.

Prosecutors said that Kelsey broke into the home in hopes of silencing Timothy Johnson, Sr., LaMonica Johnson and Alexus, all of whom were scheduled to testify the next day in a home invasion case in which Kelsey's friend was a defendant in.

Assistant District Attorney Anna Green Cross said that Alexus was shot several times and the boy was shot 11 times.

On Thursday, Kelsey pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison, plus 80 years.

DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James said that if Kelsey ever comes up for parole "he will be a very, very, very old man when he gets out of jail."

Kelsey tearfully apologized to the family of the victims in court on Thursday.

In response, LaMonica Johnson said, "I would like Mr. Kelsey to know that he took something from us that we can never get back."

Alexus has since recovered from her injuries and is getting ready to graduate from college.
