Suspect sought after woman was allegedly raped in Scottsdale apartment

Posted: Updated:
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

A Scottsdale neighborhood is on edge and police are on a manhunt for a suspect accused of raping a woman inside her gated apartment complex near 78th Street and Camelback Road.

Authorities say a 21-year-old woman returned home around 2:30 a.m. Saturday and was about to lock her apartment door when the  suspect allegedly forced himself inside.

Police say the suspect attacked and sexually assaulted the woman before running out the patio door.

The woman was injured, possibly while trying to fight the suspect off, but didn't need to go to a hospital.

Neighbors are shocked something like this could happen.

"That's a little bit scary.  I wouldn't want to be walking around at night if it's gonna be that way," said Dana Lutherford.

The suspect is described as a black man in his early 20s, 5' 11", thin build, ¼ inch afro style haircut and was wearing a white T-shirt, baggy jeans, gray boxers and a Chicago Bulls hat that may be blue in color.

Detectives are working on a composite sketch and will release it as soon as it's available.

If you have any information about this case, call the Scottsdale Police Department at 480-312-5000.
