Christie calls for changes to incentives bill

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Gov. Chris Christie says he will sign a bill overhauling economic incentives for businesses seeking to grow in the state if the Legislature agrees to drop requirements that construction and maintenance workers be paid the area's "prevailing wage."

Christie issued a conditional veto Monday, sending the bill back to lawmakers.

The governor also wants to strike a narrowly focused provision offering incentives for redeveloping certain types of non-acute medical facilities.

In a statement, Christie calls his changes "minor yet important" and gives heavy support to the rest of the bill, saying it will "boost our economy for everyone."

The measure consolidates incentive programs for job-creating economic development projects.
