Back-to-school makeup appropriate for tweens

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Tweens are back to school this week, and besides rocking trendy clothes this year, it's all about the makeup, some say.

Some are turning to online tutorials where tweens teach other tweens the art of the perfect application.

"I like wearing lipstick and stuff, I like it neony and sparkly," said Jordyn Cohen, a student she is among many who are flocking to salons for a more hands on approach.

"It makes me feel pretty and it makes me feel special sometimes when I'm wearing makeup," Jordyn said.

Cozy Friedman of Cozy's Cuts for Kids on the Upper East Side offers a tween makeup service. She says tweens covet all kinds of looks from super glam to looks perfect for the first day of school.

"Then there's what would be more appropriate for day to day: A light lip gloss, maybe a little color for the cheeks," Friedman said.

Most elementary and middle schools in the tristate area don't have policies regarding their young students wearing makeup, but Jordyn prefers to go au natural during the day and go glam after the school bell.

"You should only put it on if you have to go somewhere important or something, you shouldn't be wearing it regularly to school or something," Jordyn said.

That is good example for all young girls.

We've all fallen for at least one joke in our lives, probably some internet hoax meant to get a rise out of people. But now Facebook is trying to stop the spread of those fake jokes and stories. When you get the day's headlines from your social media news feed, it can be a challenge to figure out what might be made up or what might be the shocking truth.

Momentum to shift some gambling away from Atlantic City increased Tuesday as a state senator introduced plans for a constitutional amendment that would put slot machines at New Jersey's four horse racing tracks, a business group increased its planning for an anticipated full-blown casino at the Meadowlands sports complex and the state gave final approval for the Showboat to shut down.
