Waiter? I'll take the tablet please

CHANDLER, Ariz. -

Chili's restaurants have announced it will start placing tablets on their customers' tables so they can order food -- ask for refills -- pay the bill – and even play games -- all in an effort to enhance the dining experience.

Table top tablets are popping up at several valley restaurants,

But does this technology mean waiters will be a thing of the past?

It's all about convenience. While mom and dad want you to put the technology away at dinner, restaurants are pulling it out.

We went to Genghis Grill in Chandler where they got table top tablets about a month ago. It's a lot like online shopping.

Despite less server face time, the manager says tips are up.

McDonalds is testing an app that lets people order and pay for their food before picking it up.

At some other restaurants, text messages are sent to remind people of reservations or that a table is ready.

Customers can also text valet parking attendants.
