The List

Highest Paid Hip Hop Stars

Posted: Updated:

Today on The List we're looking at the World highest paid hip hop performers. Kayne West just missed the top 5...he actually comes in 6th on the list with 20-million dollars for the past year.

  • At number 5: Birdman with 21-million dollars.
  • At number 4: The only woman on the complete list of 20, Nicki Minaj with 29-million dollars.
  • Number 3: Dr. Dre made 40-million dollars.  He's actually down two spots from last year when he topped the list. That's because he's not getting a nine-figure payout for selling part of Beats by Dr. Dre back in 2011.  But he's still making bank from the headphones and expanding his company to include a long-awaited streaming music service.
  • Number 2: Jay Z generated 43-million dollars from his live shows, Armand de Brignac champagne, D'Ussé cognac, Roc Nation label and management firm and a bunch of other ventures. Not to mention his album went platinum before its July launch when Samsung shelled out $5 million to buy 1 million copies.
  • And finally at number 1: Sean "Diddy" Combs, he pulled in $50 million over the past 12 months. He's actually one of rap's most diversified moguls…he's got his Bad Boy record label, Sean John clothing line and Blue Flame agency. And  it's his agreement with Diageo's Ciroc vodka that brings in the bulk of his bucks. As Forbes reported in it's article on the top performers: "Sean "Diddy" Combs hasn't always agreed with FORBES' evaluations of his wealth. "[Screw] the Forbes list," he rapped on a Rick Ross song three years ago. "Let's tell the truth: I ate more." These days, however, the hip-hop mogul is changing his tune. "You started learning how to count right, I see," Diddy told FORBES earlier this year, referring to more recent estimates. "Thank God!"

In all the top 20 hip hop performers earned a combined 343-million dollars.
