GBI probing Alpharetta police-involved shooting

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (AP) - Officials from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation say they're probing a police-involved shooting that left a 41-year-old suburban Atlanta woman hospitalized.

Alpharetta police say a caller requested that officers check on a woman who had sent a text message regarding threats to commit suicide.

Police spokesman George Gordon told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/18Zcvma) that officers encountered a woman who was emotionally upset.

Gordon said the woman went into another part of the house, grabbed a firearm and pointed it at one of the officers. He said that prompted another officer to open fire on the woman.

The wounded woman was taken to North Fulton Hospital. Information on her condition wasn't immediately available.

GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang says the agency has been asked to investigate the officer's use of force.
