SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

The mother of one of the victims in Friday's deadly car crash at a Gilbert massage therapy school spoke out to FOX 10.

One student died when a car plowed into a room at the Pima Medical Institute, but this woman's 20-year-old daughter survived.

20-year-old Haili Hill nearly died in Friday's accident.

She's undergone surgeries and was recently transferred out of the ICU, but Haili's mother says it was a matter of seating choice that saved Haili's life.

The 87-year-old female driver plowed into the massage school where Haili studied.

Another student, Lacey Gruntorad, was sitting next to Haili.

The car ran over both young woman.

22-year-old Lacey died in the crash.

Haili survived, but the crash crushed her legs and sent shards of glass throughout her body.

"Haili and Lacey were sitting next to each other in school and for whatever reason, we don't know, Haili had stood up at the time the car started to impact through the window and as Haili stood up, she let out loud scream and it was too late," said Jo Jill, Haili's mother.

"How was she so lucky? Because if Haili would not have stood up, I firmly believe there would have been two tragedies yesterday, most definitely two lives lost," said Hill.

The driver and her passenger survived that crash.

Haili's family says they don't think the driver should face murder charges, but they want something to be done and don't believe she should be ever allowed to drive again.

Investigators are now trying to figure out how the crash happened.
