Illinois State Police cracking down on motorists who text and drive

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Are you a distracted driver? It's one of our big questions today on the FOX 32 News Facebook page. Illinois State Police begins a major crackdown on motorists who text and drive.

Distracted driving is a major concern plaguing roadways nationwide. Troopers will be looking for drivers on their phones along the Kennedy Expressway on Monday, in an effort to step up enforcement of Illinois law: It's illegal to text, email or use the Internet while behind the wheel.

The extra detail will span that length of I-90. State police will only be writing tickets for texting while driving, but it is in everyone's best interest for drivers to stay off their phones completely. Each motorist must do their part to ensure their own safety, and the safety of the drivers they share the road with.
