Giancarlo Esposito: There Is Good And Bad In All Of Us

Posted: Updated:

Giancarlo Esposito won't say his character on NBC's "Revolution" is a bad guy but he admits he is manipulative. He talked to Steve and Maria about the new season and explained why he thinks his character is a lot more complicated that just a "bad guy".

"He came from a very meek and mild background of being an insurance adjustor. He taught his son that the only way to survive is to be strong because if you're weak you die, if you're strong you survive. He changed his whole life to fit in and survive...I think there's good and bad in all of us and I think in the end Captain Neville will be a good guy...he's bad but in a way that he's protecting people from their worst selves."

Many people are just now discovering Giancarlo in Breaking Bad, including Maria. He earned an Emmy nomination for playing the seemingly harmless owner of a fast food chicken restaurant...in fact, he was actually a cold and calculating drug kingpin. it was a part Giancarlo almost didn't take.

"I was tired of doing guest spots and it came to me. I looked at the script. I enjoyed the script but I wasn't familiar with the show...I spoke to my wife...she said it's one of the best shows on television you should look at it. Looked at a DVD, loved it, went out and did the first episode."

And you gotta love live TV. A couple of surprise celebrity guests came out during Giancarlo's interview to say hi, and one of them *also had a role on Breaking Bad.

Fun Facts About Giancarlo:

  • He is an actor and director best known for his roles in such films as Do the Right Thing, The Usual Suspects, and King of New York, and for his portrayal of Gustavo "Gus" Fring on the AMC series Breaking Bad, for which he won the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama award at the 2012 Critics' Choice Television Awards and was nominated for an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards.
